The
Haitian Orphanage Support Program (HOSP)
In 2001 a group of dedictaed volunters formed The Haitian Orphanage
Support Program (HOSP) to organize and faciliatate the construction
of a new orphanage to relieve the severe overcrowding and substandard
facilities in which Wes Whatcott found a large group of orphans.
To date they have raised enough money to build a 1,600 ft. building
for the orphanage, but this is too small to accommodate even a small
group of orphan children and the demand for larger more adequate
housing is increasing.
The program has grown and more people have become involved. With
the help of Paul Cook and Gordon Carter, much progress has been
made. Additional funds and donations, including a large building
lot with fertile land and clean well water, has been obtained. Current
plans are to construct a facility large enough to house up to 80
children plus the caretaker and his family..
Even with all the work and assistance, this is just the beginning.
Additional donations are needed, whether monetary, materials or
personal time. Ongoing support for the orphanage is critical, with
basic necessities such as food and baby formula in scarce supply.
Objectives
Construction of a new orphanage Best estimates of
total construction and related costs are $360,000 of which $160,000
has been collected. We are now in the process of collecting the
balance needed.
Locating and processing adoptive families Several
licensed child placing agencies are being enlisted in locating and
processing adoptive families including but not limited to: Family
Orphan Bridge, Focus on Children, West Sands Adoptions, Premier
Adoptions, Around the World Adoptions, Adopt and Angel, Cherubs
4 Us, Christian Adoption Services, Little Miracles, A New Arrival
and others.
Ongoing Support One of our greatest needs has been
meeting the costs of food, clothing, medical care, and related expenses
of running the orphanage. To date such expenses have been met from
the occasional donations from dedicated people like you.
Future Expansion We are under continual pressure
to accept and process more children. We turn away up to 40 children
per month. More adoptive families are desperately needed.

Proposed
15,000 square foot floorplan. The building will sit on this 2 acre
plot. Use of adjoining plantation land has been offered after the
orphanage has been completed. The plantation has the potential for
many benefits, including raising of animals and light industrial
development.

Formula
is shipped as baggage by travelers going back and forth from
Florida to Haiti. Other means of delivery leave the formula
vulnerable to theft. |
